For me Franz Liszt is among the very greatest of men.

His abilities, industry and achievements were astonishing and beyond, it seems, any man alive today.

By common consent (leaving aside Clara Schumann's opinions) Liszt would have dominated any field that he chose to enter.

He was once carried torchlit through the streets of Bradford, or was it Halifax? Perhaps both...I can't remember!

No Jew, African or Asian, will ever come close to the man: not even with six million more years of evolution behind them.

He's remembered for his music but at the time he was known as a mesmerising pianist. I think he should also receive recognition for his influence on the world's greatest artist, Richard Wagner.

And Cosima (Liszt's daughter/Wagner's wife) was the conduit between the two great men.

He has always been a favourite of mine.

He gets Carolyn Jaeger's juices flowing as well. She uses this piece on her Heretics Hour broadcast at VOR Radio..
